You know who will fall for that? People who fell for the iPad in the first place.
What makes you think that? Surely anyone with enough brains to spend $499 on a useful device instead of $299 on a useless netbook wouldn't fall for an obvious scam like that.
On a crappy netbook you might fall for a message in crappy English. An iPod user would take one look and say "surely this message cannot be sent by Apple".

Another option would be to get a really nice printout of some of your illustration work and photograph various closeup details of it..
Great idea. And include contact info as part of the image of course.

Just to re-iterate... We really don't know that it will happen at MWSF. The FIRST shipments are rumored to be coming in February (which probably means February 28th), so IF it is announced at MWSF, it wouldn't be shipping then.

The idea just came to me that I would like it if I can track my computers the same way I track my iPhones and iPads.
I always have a notebook or two lent out to friends and have personal and work ones I carry around.
I imagine that as long as the computer is on wifi you can track it the same as an iPod Touch.
I know Apple has taken heat lately about customer tracking but I would think this would be a positive and a great selling point. Especially if they can find a way for it to work while the computer is sleeping.
Any Thoughts, anyone who wouldn't want this?

You have to *restore* the iPod in iTunes, restoring will wipe all data on the iPod, there is no way around that. Using a virtual machine *will* work, as long as it has USB support, which all the major VM apps do have.
RE SP3: Maybe..? Just try try it, it will probably work.

I can see why clouds would be tough.
Here's an alternative idea.
What about a flock of birds flying in the shape of the logo?
You can use the exact same image. Just with birds instead of clouds as the logo.

My wife's 3GS stopped working. So I reset it. After about 20 minutes, the thing finally came up and so she preceded to log back in to Facebook. The first attempt failed and gave us the message you will see in the attached photo. What on earth is this?
The phone has the latest OS version, has never been jailbroken, and the Facebook app was just downloaded from the app store.
Any ideas?

This isn't contracted work. I am approaching companies with examples of what I can do; unfortunately the nature of the illustrations I'm sampling them with mean that unscrupulous types could take it, easily remove any watermarks (it is simple line-work, after all) and use it for their own purposes. I can obviously include a caveat somewhere that I own copyright of the image, but when you're sending examples overseas for manufacturing companies to look at, it's a little difficult to get legitimately signed agreements that it won't be copied and used... unless anyone knows better!!

Who's going to be there at 5pm on April 30th when the 3G iPad comes out? I will. Thinking about getting there around 4pm. Anybody else?

Random question I know but I am very confused after visiting the zoo yesterday. I was at the St. Louis Zoo yesterday and stopped by the Black Rhino area as I made my way around the zoo. After a few minutes of watch the Black Rhino (I do not know if it was a male or female) it backed up to one of the stone walls where there was a stain on the wall. I thought maybe it was from rain water or urine or something. As I am thinking this a stream of white liquid with the consistency of water shoots out from the rhino's rear end.
Now, I about died from laughing so hard when I saw this but I really want to know what I witnessed. It did not look like any kind of urine I have ever seen a animal produce and I am fairly sure semen is semen. I just assume semen is semen in any male mammals.
It began to rain shortly after leaving the enclosure and I did not get a chance to find a worker to ask. I tried looking it up online last night and ignorant/exhausted me didn't put 2 and 2 together when i googled "Black Rhino squirting white liquid". Bad bad bad search results.

What computer do you have? Do you have an express card slot?
If you do you can get an eSATA adapter.
SATA is not bus powered though.
Thanks for the kindhearted correction.
No problem. Trying my best to be an arse sometimes. ;)

MIPs is Million Instructions Per Second which is an old performance measure of for mainframes.
and I think there used to be a company called MIP.
Sorry I actually know what a MIP is I meant to ask what MPI is.

If it is any consolation to those who don't have an Apple store, I live in Melbourne where we have two (and an other one coming soon?) and I've never been there.
There are Apple specialists all over the place - they're just as good, just no fancy interiors.
I reckon if apple are going to make one in the melbourne cbd its going to be somewhere amazing like the old myer building facing melb central

What OS version?
Where are you running it from? AppleScript Editor? Something else?
Exactly which folders have you tried it on? Be specific.
What user account are you logged in as?
Break It Down.
If you take out the second line, what is the resulting theFolder value? What is its type? Is it a string, an alias, a fnord, something else?
If you change the variable name from theFolder to myFolder or eineKleineFnordMusik, what happens?

If you're talking about the Superdrive (you have cdr/rw-dvdr), I would say it's supposed to make extra noise. The one in my QuickSilver certainly does but I haven't had any errors using it.
You might check the speed at which you're recording the CD-ROMs. If you're exceeding the media speed, or it's inexpensive media, you should try using a slower speed to see if the errors stop.
