Hey, all, thanks in advance.
My campus has had problems recently with the internet being slow, dropping the connexion, etc. Usually I can go into system preferences and network, then use the "assist me" feature to fix things without any trouble.
But right now my friend isn't able to get her MacBook to connect at all She's tried restarting numerous times without any luck. Either it says there's no IP, or that it's authenticated via PEAP. Any tips for her? :/
Ask the campus tech why she is unable to connect. It could be that the campus requires the mac address to be registered.

Try posting in the Mac Pro forums (http://forums.macrumors.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1). This is the Power PC forums. You might get more help there.

Does anyone know what this is about? -Do you want the application "netsession_mac_b94eec3" to accept incoming network connections?

Very nice and well thought out design. I like to looks of this one, but I would think that the ICE would be a fingerprint magnet.

I think Apple should take iCal, Mail and Address Book and make them into one application (yes, like Entourage, but better) that works seamlessly with iSync. Why should they be three individual apps that are integrated instead of one that "just works"? What would this app be called? What do you all think?
As it stands with my current situation, it there combined wouldn't be able to use any of them. Currently my Mail is locked.

Its not just iphone production or Apple either. Foxconn makes stuff for every major electronics manufacturer.
So this is not an Apple issue. It's Foxconn's issue and the fact that the Chinese government allows them to get away with it.

I love this idea, although I don't think Apple has that sense of humour.
iPhone Maine Coon FTW!
I think you're right. Steve does not have this kind of humor. It would probably inspire some pretty hilarious cases though. I can only imagine.

Your list is a great start. If you master those things, you'll have some very valuable skills.
Keep it up!!
Thanks! I sure hope so, I was looking at a monster of a Javascript book the other day... got a bit of a challenge ahead of me, but I have liked coding so far.
I got my development job from learning PHP, once you start being able to hook into databases and write "real" functions (something that imo javascript isn't much good for) then you can do some really cool stuff :)
Just out of curiosity I was looking at job listings for web development and most of them listed PHP as something they wanted people to know, so I figured it was something I should be learning. Thanks for confirming that!

Howdy. My friend has a Jailbroken iPod Touch 3G, and he recently bought a wall charger from China for $3 or something. When he plugs it in to charge it, the iPod displays the infamous message, 'Charging is not supported by this accessory'. Obviously this was an inconvenience. Somehow, by playing around with the iPod, we actually managed to get the charger working. Everytime we tried to plug it in, it gave the same message, but for some reason, we went inside SBSettings, and then into dock, and plugged it in. IT WORKED!! This is the only way we've found to make it work, and I thought it was a bit odd.
Could anyone else try this out and see if it works for them?

WOW! My wife and I just finished seeing this film, it is a fantastic movie that we whole heartedly recommend. Honestly if you are in the mood for a truly astounding movie that will move you, The King's Speech is it! Came in from Netflix yesterday.

Every time I try to download something (i.e. Silverlight), when I double click the content my mac wants to try to open it through Microsoft Powerpoint. Is there a default setting that I need to change? I have tried opening it through different applications, but am a newb when it comes to Macs. Anything would be helpful, thanks.

Been about 10 years since I last spent a significant amount of time with Macs but I wanted to try OSX and it was time to get a new machine for my day-to-day computing chores (word processing, internet, finances, music, archiving, etc.). Didn't need to be powerful and I didn't want to spend a lot of money but I wanted something portable so I got an 800Mhz ibook. I couldn't justify spending another $300 on the 900Mhz model just to get the combo drive since I already have a firewire burner I can use at home. Besides, if I spent an extra $300 for that, I may as well spend another $300 and get a 12" powerbook. Then I'd be a long way from my cheap computer. ;)
It took just a few hours for my iBook to make a mockery of many Switch ads. I knew they were BS when they first aired but I was surprised to see so many contradicted in the first few hours.
My email didn't import properly. All of the folders are there but most of the big ones are empty or only have a single message. :P I also had a crash the first night. I came back to the computer and found a black display. At first I thought it'd just gone to sleep but the light wasn't flashing and the screen's backlight was still on. Then there were the drivers. I actually had to download drivers for my MP3 player and printer. The horror. ;)
But enough griping. I really do like my little iBook. It runs OS X great. The battery life is better than I expected (and I haven't even done any power-saving tweaking). I've got 60 gigs of space which is enough to carry everything I need and a lot of stuff I don't need. The airport card works with my old wireless gateway. I've been able to find software to do just about everything I did on the PC. The sleep mode is awesome. I still can't get over the recovery time. It's ready to go by the time I get the screen angle adjusted. After that initial crash, it's been rock solid. I've only rebooted after installing drivers and I think I've got them all loaded now. The next reboot will probably be for an OS update.
The screen is bright and the fan hardly ever comes on, even if the CPU is running at 100%. (I installed the folding@home client so I could see how often the fan would kick in.) Even with the CPU at 100% and the airport card turned on, battery life is still decent.
Okay, a couple more gripes. WTF is up with the one-button mouse? Yeah, I know. "Get a real mouse." I did. A nice cordless optical mouse. But that doesn't help me when I'm on the move. I don't want to lug extra stuff around. Why can't my track pad have two buttons?
And what's the deal with anti-aliasing? Why does everything need to be "smoothed"? Makes it look like I've got the display set at the wrong resolution. I put TinkerTool on there but it seems that some apps just ignore the setting and "smooth" the fonts anyway. Come on, Apple. Let ME decide how I want text presented on MY computer. Put a "none" option in there and make it stick.

What 30" do you have? Some monitors have multiple inputs so you wouldn't have to switch the cables, just get two cables and leave the MBP one plugged in when not using it.
It boils down to how much you need the MBP. If you know you will start traveling soon, then definitely don't sell the MBP. Also, do you need much power when traveling? You could just grab a refurb 11" MBA for instance if not much power is required.
Otherwise, MBP + PC sounds the best if you think your MBP can't satisfy your gaming needs.
I bought the zr30w. I actually really like it. Very rich colors and I love the matte! I got one from newegg, came with some lit pixels, but I'm sure they will exchange it as hp guarantees against stuck pixels on their 30"s.
