You are aware you just paid extra for only one think and that is MAC os. By placing windows on it you kind of defeat the purpose of buying a MAC. You wasted a lot of money in fact. Never buy a mac for hardware...Because they do not have the best.

Plenty of people buy Macs for the hardware. If I needed a laptop right now to run Windows and nothing else, then obviously I would have to check whether I am mentally capable of using Windows for any length of time without throwing the laptop out of the window, but once I've found the strength to do that, the 13" MBP or one of the MBAs are probably the least miserable way to run Windows.

Of course, if you are praying every day that your laptop breaks down because you have to use Windows, then a MacBook is not for you.

Ok you keep bring up quality. You are aware that Apple does not Produce the highest quality computers.

Actually, no. I'm not aware of that.

Like Flash or hate Flash, the fact remains that Flash enabled web site have a major prevalence on the web. I hate the fact that I should have the most technologically available device, but don't just because Apple won't allow Flash - which they could easily allow.

Politics and a pissing contest between Apple and Adobe and I have to suffer. Jobs is just trying to push for his own web app. But there is a jailbreak Flash app. Jobs may not put customers' desires at the top of his list, but DevTeam does.

Setting aside wether or not they "could easily allow" with all their various carrier agreements and such. Flash is just a bloated buggy hog that will make the iphone run badly. Apple won't allow that. And they shouldn't.
Flash needs to be rewritten from the ground up. Optimized to work with OS X and the iPhone OS (which is a version of osx). Maybe then Apple will let it on the iPhone.

I am NOT into "talkies" - I think they are called "movies" now? But what excites me, especially as an AAPL investor (mostly at $4/share) is the vision of iSteve and his team. Where the hell would we be if we only had that other fellow...yes, I'm pleased that fellow donates for world health, God bless him....

And yet, no new iPhone will be present ... I predict a lot of attending hearts will be broken!

I doubt all those whining about $5 for Xcode 4 are attending the Developers Conference.

We just purchased CS5 last week, at the massively over-inflated UK price.

Now they want us to pay them some more for a service pack.

    Thanks a lot Adobe.

    Edit:
OK I take it back... well partially... the UK prices are still a disgrace.

    From Adobe's site:
"You might be eligible for a complimentary upgrade if you recently bought your software product (full or upgrade)."

On a side note, is this the same battery they're recalling (and still selling)?

hahaha, that'd be a bit of an oversight. i wonder if the new batteries are being specially made for the recall...

And if the US spent even a fraction of the $600 billion a year it spends on its military on aid then we'd all be better off - free mosquito nets for Africans would be a good start (http://www.economist.com/blogs/democracyinamerica/2011/03/libya_v_aid?page=4).

I sometimes wonder what the world would be like today if over the last 30 years we had spent 80% of our military budget on actually productive shite.

Why can't I use the alternate views when I'm just playing the music off of my iPod? I never ever use the library because my iPod is always plugged in (and usually I just drag stuff from Finder into my iPod, cutting out the middleman of the Library). What a disappointment!

You can already get a MB with more RAM and larger HDD so what would be the point of that? A 13 inch MBP would make more sense.

Because you can't get a MacBook with a core 2 duo. Doh!

That's the whole point (of the thread actually)

I started experiencing shutdowns a couple of weeks ago. I downloaded the firmware update and it only seemed to make the problem worse. I had to hold down the power button to turn it back on, and then the computer would stay on for a couple of minutes tops. I could barely keep it alive to make an appointment online at the local Genius Bar.

When I brought it in, they immediately said they would replace the heatsink and change the top panel (discoloration issues). They got the job done in 24 hours, as they said they would.

So far, no problems whatsoever. Even though this problem was driving me crazy, I'm quite happy with the way Apple took care of my computer once I brought it in.

BTW, I can't get a temp reading on my iStat Nano widget, any suggestions on how to fix that? Also, what is a normal temp. range?

Maybe a whole new kind of display using E ink. Sony has something called a Reader that uses it. It draws very little power, none at all if the background is static and unmoving.

    Look at it here. http://www.eink.com/
But does it do color? It would suck if you it was b/c you'd have to buy one iPod that uses this for books/artricles and another for videos.

i think i would rather read a paperback

wouldnt the screen strain the eyes?

I used to think that, but then I started using my old (now deceased) Kyocera 7135 smartphone to read books. Smaller screen than the iPod, not as high resolution. At one point I read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in a single weekend on it, with absolutely no feelings of eye strain. It's not an issue any more.

I found when reading on a smart phone I actually preferred it over a paperback -- easier to hold open (so I could sip my coffee), no worries about losing the page, backlight meant that I could read on the bus in the morning on the way to work, or other places where lighting wasn't always convenient.

Additionally I found I read more, because I always had several books with me, and they were always handy -- standing in a supermarket lineup, I could pull it out and read 2 or 3 pages while waiting.

These days I've even experimented with using j2me to read books on my T610. Not as comfy as the Kyocera, but again no issues with eye strain.

If the T610 is readable, the iPod will be no problem...

If you run a business, like I do, then you would actually appreciate what they've done. To hire a new designer involves having enough work in the first place, which costs money. You then need to pay recruitment fees (anything from 500 - 5k depending who you use), buy them a new Mac (around 1500+ for a decent iMac), load it with software (around 2k) and then hope the candidate is as good as they interviewed. You're taking all of the risk and hoping that the work continues regularly enough to cover their salary and all of the expenses you just paid out on, when in SMEs it can vanish as quickly as it arrived. So after spending maybe as much as 8k before the member of staff has even started and you've bought their software, to be able to pay 85/m for the software instead of 1700 in one hit is a much needed relief.

If this scheme, and I mean scheme, works for you then great. However, I suspect that the ridiculous and endless upgrade price hikes are causing some folks to skip some of the upgrades if they do not feel the marginal improvements are worth the cost. And... this is their way to squeeze those folks on a more regular basis.

I am not advocating gimp, pixelimator, corel whatever... but perhaps in most instances the upgrades are not essential. I think Adobe has grown to be a repulsive example of some of the worst business practices, whereas they used to be thought of in much kinder terms.

To cite one example, Apple on the other hand has steadily reduced the cost of Aperture over the years, much in keeping with their usual trend of reducing cost, and increasing performance. I use Photoshop less and less these days, still mostly only for sizing, CMYK conversion, anything with layers or compositing, and stuff with type (which comprises probably around 10% of my workflow, and that is a high number). Aperture combined with Nikon's NIK suite introduced dramatic workflow changes, whereas photoshop has become a bloated beast, besotted with feature creep (surrounded by a few worthwhile improvements in each version).

Adobe also has moved to a Microsoft style breakdown of suite packages, and the packages seem to keep changing (how convenient and beneficial for them).

When Lion comes out it will probably take another 5-6 months for Adobe to release a stable and compatible version.

I never advocate piracy, but this just encourages some folks to do it. Meanwhile they are rolling in profits. Disgusting. Overreaching. Greed.
About sums it up for me...

Here's a work around maybe. Under Systems Preferences > Network > Airport

Click on Configure and then Options...

I wonder if this is a specific to X86 hardware... Does this effect ppc based hardware?

Oh, probably should ask for admin psswd to change networks as well...

This rumor is 100% automatic BS.

You can come back and throw verbal stones at me if wrong, but this low-end computing pad is going to get that kind of unseen technology out the gate? First, the price of the device would be $900+, killing its market, unless there is some amazingly convenient reason for the 3D screens to be made as cheap as the regular ones used now. The iPad 3 + 3D making it iPad 3D seems just a tad too convenient for a dumb rumor to start. Sounds more like a joke said in a bar and spread as fact to see how far the fanboys would run.

Heck, they couldn't even bring out a retina-resolution screen yet on the iPad. Or OLED. ...and you think they'll implement 3D: the most useless innovation sparked by a Hollywood carnival barker?

By the time you've gone through all that, the girl's got up and left! You're much better off to take one of your earbuds out and put it in her ear. Then you're connected with about two feet of headphone cable.

    hahaha awesome :D

Again as I stated before... Apple is really starting to dabble in the 3D interface. The album art is a good example of this. Granted its a rip off of someone else's idea...No idea of the name of the app but I was playing around with it a few months back that did exactly this. *shrugs* Whatever.

As has been stated a million times today already, Apple bought out CoverFlow, they didn't rip anybody off.
