Well my MB was bought the day they were announced - my local Apple store didn't have them on display yet :) and mine hasn't had the shutdown issue.
Same here. Got a black one the day of release from apple store and have not had a single problem. I guess that was the only good batch.

I think the original poster was talking about the speaker volume, and I happen to agree - I think my speaker volume is slightly louder.
volume is definitely louder. it was actually one of the first things i noticed with this update because when i first got my macbook i was disappointed in the maximum volume. my heat sink was replaced also. it has been 24 hours and i've been on my computer a considerable amount...no problems so far.

if they're not too pricey i might have to update, although they're gonna have to have more power than the II's, there's a piddly amount of wattage in the sub.
Doesn't look like they're worth upgrading to from the SoundSticks II.
Here's Harman Kardon page for them:
HarmanKardon.com: SoundSticks III (http://www.harmankardon.com/EN-US/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?PID=SOUNDSTICKS3AM)
and a couple of mentions on the web:
MacWorld.com: Harman Kardon announces SoundSticks III (http://www.macworld.com/article/154998/2010/10/soundsticksiii.html)
SlashGear.com: Harmon Kardon Soundsticks III: minor update to design classics (http://www.slashgear.com/harmon-kardon-soundsticks-iii-minor-update-to-design-classics-1594011/)

Remember the beige G3's? When Jobs first came back, he put the 233 G3's into the same beige boxes the old 604's were in so that they could be released sooner.
So are you theorizing that they are working on a new design but its not ready so they have to go with modified G5 cases?
Or could the G5 case still be so good that its not worth changing right now?

wow, what is the point of even advertising a smaller box, the nano box was miniscule as it is. It just makes you wonder what they have cut out of the old box to make this box smaller, maybe they make you buy the dock and ipod-> usb cable, and the ipod plug all seperately.

I did phone in and after a mere 30 minutes on hold, spoke w/ a rather angry man (who is actually an iPod tech who got called over to handle this battery business) and he said my battery falls within the recall range, but to just re-try the website later.
I tried, and the web-app is still telling me I have an invalid battery. Argh.

Lets hope they remaster them - the stereo effects on the original versions can be really painful on a pair of headphones.
+1
The quality of The Beatles CD releases are, for the most part, poor. Of course, they date from 1987, and digital tech has improved greatly since then.
The music itself could also do with a remix. Mixing drums entirely in one stereo channel is difficult to take in headphones!

When there is a big bug that sneaks into the application but isn't caught before the release of the app. You discover it after several people complain (and several in FB terms is probably thousands) but you can fix the problem in an hour. But then you need to wait 2-3 weeks for the application to be approved by apple. In the mean time you can't do jack **** because the app store is completely controlled by Apple.
Somehow this logic only makes me think that 'complete control' by Apple is a good thing. Something with as many users as FB warrants thorough testing prior to springing it on unsuspecting users. Just because of open source and 'free testing services' provided by the general public (ala Vista) doesn't really justify a lack of internal QA.
I guess now that Apple helped break down the practices of the carriers totally controlling and locking down crippled phones they suddenly are the bad guy.
Not saying their process is perfect, and I think some 'drama' around it will help it evolve - but - the fact that many developers don't bother to test their apps is one part of why the approval process exists.

Wal-Mart uses loss-leading priced CD sales to draw people into the store.
I work for Target... while we do not always underprice CD's, in many products, that is the case. If someone goes to buy that one product (that the store takes a loss on) the store hopes that they will pick up other items while they are there.
Target sells a lot of the iTunes pre-paid cards... and TONS of iPod accessories.

Apple needs to do something fast, beause virtually forcing schools across America to take on Macs and whining that Microsoft are big bullies isn't going to help them.
Sorry, i'm being a bit extreme, but i wish Apple would hurry up and do something.
PCs are the competition and releasing an update of a product every six months, while the competition is constantly updating, isn't going to work for them for much longer.
I am shocked to hear you say that "Apples exists to compete with PCs and one of, if not THE major element of that is having the best/fastest hardware!" Apple exists to make money, and part of that means competing with pcs. But again, the motivation is the need to make money, not to compete with pcs for the sake of competing with pcs. Not all users want more power, ease of use is more important than some. I merely suggested that this is a complex problem that requires serious marketing, not simple, uni-variable analysis (eg. faster= more market share). WHere do you consider all the factors of buying a computer? This is why you can never say which computer is "best" At work my pc is tons better than a mac, because I can run ProEngineer (a solid modeling program). At home, my mac is best, because of imovie, itunes, the os, and .mac, etc
Why do you want apple to "hurry up and do something"? You can buy a pc if you want to.

Let's theorize: So why didn't they use the internal card?
Supposedly because apple said "please, please, pretty please dont"
Edit: Or maybe it was just an offer they couldnt refuse...

Steve is smooth, and he gets the point.
There is nothing more to ruin the moment, whether it be with a pretty girl, or with someone you are having a friendly convesation with, than to start fumbling with MENUS. The spontanity is lost once 2 people need to remove their Zunes from their pockets, go through a few menus, and then send a song over wireless. THEN listen to it. ALONE.
Wireless will come on iPod when its good and ready. It isnt right now.
motulist: you are right on cue. You just described what will be the real Zune experience.
