Who the hell wants to watch movie on an iPod. You can't even watch 2 hours of video on the current iPod...think...the battery like will be even WORSE with a larger screen?!?!?

I want a merom macbook pro...right now!!!! I might buy a freeken dell if i have to wait any longer...and I hate windows... I am hoping they will update it on the website tomorrow...tues. sept. 5th....not likely though since they will need a new logic boards because they soldered the core duo chips in...how stupid. Hopefully they will make some other updates since they have to re-do stuff anyway.

Who cares about a new nano also...the current one is fine

video and reading both require looking at the screen and less frequent input, and therfore would work well with a big screened, controls on back or sides style device.
The big problem is that the best display technology for reading (eInk) does not work for video, currently (too slow refresh rate). I would love one device for video and books, but it comes back to the ease of reading / power issue.

Was "schooled" yet again... When the iPad 2 was close to being announced; I mentioned to a group of friends that I might sell my better half my iPad - I was "taught" that as this point there is NO SELLING of old "tech".

that is a load. First off the original ipad is hardly 'old tech'. It is still very usable by the right folks. Say little kids that want to play games, granny that just wants it for email, the whole "teach for america" thing.

'Old tech' would be trying to sell a G4 with a PPC processor in the now every entrenched Intel age. There's pretty much no 3rd software supporting it, Mac OS 10.5 is the highest you can take that, etc

Its time to make a premium-priced high-capacity iPod touch instead; maybe 256 for some hair-raising price! Yes, HDs are cheap, but you have to make the transition some time! It could even be thicker if necessary; after all, the Classic is already a separate hardware design to build. (I might have suggested a thicker, hard-disk-based Touch, but I think iOS uses the drive in ways that would bog down hideously on a spinning platter. Hmmm... maybe a hybrid drive?)

And yet, no new iPhone will be present ... I predict a lot of attending hearts will be broken!

WWDC has always been a software conference, the hardware you see on the 1st day are for the consumers (and fanboys), the remaining days are always software focused ... Thats why its from 6th-10th  ... don't get it twisted, not every developer desires the new releases of hardware at every wwdc.

Apple is at the core a software company.

    what are you talking about?

once you sync your iDevice to one itunes account, you can't plug it into a different computer and transfer their photos, apps, music, etc. to your device without completely restoring it to that itunes account. This has nothing to do with never charging your phone.

So you think because it's wireless it will allow you do that? That's a big assumption. Charging was about the fact that wireless syncing at least for me only makes sense if you can charge at the same time (induction charging) otherwise it will be slow and battery draining. I sync my iPhone at least once a weak and i put 10-12 GB of music and videos on it everytime. For such amounts wireless sync is pointless. Of course people sync different amounts of data and at different frequencies, but they sync.

    a few things:
    1. gapless playback has always been an option in itunes before this version.
    2. i want the old library format back! is there a way to make it 3 little windows? (artist and albums on top and tracks on bottom?) so much scrolling involved now.

For the people who thinks that Vista is too expensive:

Mac users: Spend more $ on hardware. Spend less $ on software.

Windows users: Spend more $ on software. Spend less $ on hardware.

What a shock the computing industry works both ways.

Did anyone else expect a Beatles announcement after all the mentions they got? He played two Beatles songs, name checked a couple of albums and even used their album art in his summary.

It looked like he was setting up for a by the way kind of announcement, not that the Beatles should ever be mentioned as an aside. Certainly when the first mention of them came up capitalised on the macrumorslive report I thought something might be up but it all came to nothing - why do you tease us so Steve?I figured with Steve's magic powers he would bring the 4 Beatles on stage and have them play something for us. I guess even Steve has his limits.

Holy moley, you mean it starts downloading cover art without asking or letting you turn that off? I don't want cover art, and I sure as heck don't want to use up bandwidth on my connection for cover art downloads, much less send out reports on what I care to keep in my playlists.

No, you turn it on in Preferences.

I'm not surprised if they opted for the 8.1MP ExmoR sensor on Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc.

But the Xperia Arc camera is worse than iPhone 4. I don't understand the wisdom of Apple this time.

The macbook was hacked in 60 seconds. Why it was hacked or whoose software was responsible is irrelevant. The macbook was HACKED, PERIOD!.
    End of story.

That the MacBook was hacked using a third-party card and third-party drivers isn't irrelevant, it's the whole point.

There's an important difference between standard configuration and this set-up which makes it so much easier for the MacBook to be hacked. Your cheerleading aside, no Mac is hack-proof, but there's a big difference between breaking a lock and opening it because someone left the keys in the door.

Surely Apple can't combine everything into something like http://www.macnn.com/blogs/?p=98.

    Or can they?

I normally don't pay attention to Apple patent applications, but this one's a doozie!

Everything from 100% full screen to virtual keys, to selecting different modalities depending on orientation(!), to sensitivity to force of touch, to squeezing, to miniDVD drive, to ....

    WOW!

    <edit:>
Or maybe it's really the iTablet? Larger form factor than an iPod? They talk about various operating systems. Maybe it'll be OS X?
    </edit>

..hmm... as many of you know .mac has really been struggling in the past few months.

    Prediction:

Steve will announce an all new .mac service, with web based applications reserved solely for .mac members. Also a new feature will be the ability to store videos on your .mac which can be streamed to your iphone and AppleTV 2.

    j.

    These would be nice.

Also direct machine to machine syncing, synching to iphone/touch would be very nice.

If Apple holds back on the iPhone 5 for the fall or winter, then I would expect we're going to see a fairly major change in the same basic iPhone4 form.

    FORM or FUNCTION?

I can't imagine some Rubik's-Cube type form or a LOLicopter or something. It's always going to be generally the same form with minor tweaks.

As for FUNCTION... I am surprised how they spread out the tech and update. iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad all have closely similar tech. The only reason to spread them out is for price and sales of immediate-cool and price of parts. Logically, you'd think all those items would be launched together.

iPad3 might launch in Sept/Oct with iPods in order to smack down another slate device emerging on market at that time. It would be beneficial for Apple to save up all the tech and release everything all cranked up to maximum function at the beginning of the school year.
    -------
    Should be:

    Sept--iPad/iPod/iPho
    June--MacPro and OSs
    March--iMacs
    Dec--notebooks & software suites

'Course, they don't have to do that at all and can keep to other plans, but I get the logic of it all. People will survive and thrive with iPhone 4 another 3 months.

I agree, and am fortunate to have a legit edu connection. That said, companies vary on their proof requirements. Apple, in my experience, will give you the edu price by just saying you are a student/teacher/buying it for one. I've seen them sell a Mac at that price to grandparents, etc. Pretty decent policy. MS just requires a .edu email, but then again technet is so cheap that the edu discount pales. of course, with technet using the software in a production environment is a license violation.

Right, and 9 times out of 10 the Apple Specialist will just give you the discount just so he/she can attach Mobile Me and Applecare and whatever else . . . . . oh that was just me. :D

Seriously though the requirements for that EDU discount are just as you said, nothing more than mentioning it or purchasing it through an online store. At the end of the day, you will OWN your EDU copy of a software title rather than some garbled up binary from a torrent made to look like a piece of software.

Oh ya. I have several pieces of glass that individually cost more than the body. People complain about software lock in; MS / APPLE ?Adobe et. al. have nothing on the camera manufacturers and their proprietary mounts.

True! That Nikkor 85mm 1.4 I am drooling over is going for $2200, far more than the price of my $1200 D7000 (which trumps the D2xs it replaced in so many ways).

That is fine. I'm not telling you what your opinion should be. I'm just saying, I found the story to be quite good, and all of the levels seemed very logical in their order and importance. The fact that you missed all the dates in all the cutscenes might explain why you found them to be "random" in their occurrence. The story was VERY far from rubbish, in my opinion.

I think it boils down to expectations. If you are happy living another chapter of the story, then it's ok. If a player is anticipating a "new" experience, I'd agree that there is room for disappointment from a story perspective. However I thought the space flying was fun. If I critique it, story wise there seems to be no revelations regarding mankind's prequel pre-Halo encounter with the Covenant. Their on Reach, mostly run around and fight'm. I think it confirms it's time to put the Halo story to bed.

My favorite Halo games are the original and Halo 3. Halo 3 is amazing. No surprises there? :)

    I am so confused.
I will check my old PBG4 which should be travelling somewhere in the world... If it needs replacement then it's ok.
So, I will sit still for the next 2 months, call apple care after that and relax.

    Apple care = Worry Free

Ironic how the Sony Handycams had that "Worry Free" ad in their batteries.

All this moral discussion about stealing a 1500,- bucks suite of software is pretty ridiculous if you put it into a relation to the billions of dollars/euros stolen from our tax money by the private central banks.

If a corporation steals billions that's ok, but if someone pirates a single piece of software that's theft.

The same rules should apply to everyone.

Btw, I have only legit software on my computer.
