The hardcore Apple fans boys are coming out of the woods today. Criticizing the developer, Facebook, everything but Apple's ridiculous App Store policies.

I just want to know why an established global business like Facebook, can't get permission to push through bug fixes without waiting two weeks for approval? It's freaking ridiculous, and there is an apparent pattern where an app is approved without problems and updates are delayed for weeks on end.

I've been put out by Apple's stupid approval policy on two apps I paid for. Waiting weeks at a time for crucial bug fixes to get pushed into the app store. Knowing the developer has fixed the issue but I'm stuck with an app I paid for that doesn't work properly.

I love Apple's products but they need to put in some work to make the App Store approval process better. Either more training and reviewers, or create some programs where established companies with a proven track record can get updates out there quickly.

I wonder what MS is doing in Vista to prevent piracy? At that price I'm sure a lot of people will be tempted to pirate it.

The same thing they've been doing for years --- suing anyone they can catch

Haha! Everyone waited for this update and it's so lame. Core 2 Duo is nice, but I'm certainly glad I bought my r1 MB :D

I get the feeling this'll drag on for a very long time...

Even though I'm in the market for one, I don't mind this. The longer it stretches out, the higher the chances that we'll see a significant upgrade in some unforeseen dimension. I'd prefer waiting a bit and getting something awesome in the feature set than getting the incremental update we've all been expecting since the first of the year.

THAT is exactly what Im talking about. All you people bitch and complain about new things/developments that Apple might be working on (and later announce) and at first you all hate it. Then you get used to it, and then one day you find you love it. I hope the iPhone does come out and you all hate it and it becomes a phenomenal success....the same case the iPod once faced. Same with the new names (MacBook). Same with the switch to Intel (now look how lucky we are). Same with the Intel integrated graphi...well...no one likes those actually, but my point is stop thinking you're going to hate it because you're most likely going to end up getting it anyway.

    So true!
That's why Steve probably never wasted his time reading forums because in the end MOST people just love to hate and whine. With some exceptions of good posts, I usually just see people expecting crazy products and then getting disappointed at the end of every keynote or special event.

I don't believe this movie thing will be of great resolution. Chances are it'll be no worse than 480p. I mean, the TV shows iTunes sells aren't even HD (this is why I use an alternative source) and there's a huge difference between the HD version I get and iTunes'. I hope for the 10+ bucks they're charging us, the resolution gets to be 720p; 1080p would be ridiculous (bad or good).

iPod nano is good but I would like for the full-screen iPod. I got my eyes set on the Meizu M6 Miniplayer. I'm just hoping they update the Meizu to 8GB, etc (chances are unlikely considering it's not even sold to North America) because that price and sturdiness (couple that with the beautiful 2.4inch screen) and you got a competitive Nano-Killer.

No-TOUCH iPOD THIS TUESDAY POR FAVOR!

Despite the picture of a Power Mac-like casing on the banner, I still think that the Mac Pro will have a different structure than the Power Macs.

I mean, developers will still have to use Power Macs to test the PowerPC versions of their software, right? So why not throw a tool that developers will still be using up there?

Plus, of the four Macs that already have Intel processors, the two that kept their old names (iMac, Mac mini) have the same (or basically the same) casing, while the two that now have different names (MacBook Pro, MacBook) have different cases (the Pro does look a lot like the PowerBook, but it has many design changes).

here's some of my speculation about this update...

While we don't know exactly how the Firmware update was designed, it would appear as though the update could simply ignore symptoms of a SMC short circuit to allow the laptop to continue operating. If this is the case it may degrade a MacBook's ability to detect true over-heat situations.

AppleInsider had previously reported that a new MacBook logic board was under development to eliminate the root hardware issue, but a release date was not known.

Why isnt anyone talking about how ugly this interface looks? White on Dark backgrounds = not fun on the eyes. Please tell me this isnt how it will look. The background rendering and all that stuff is great, but I HOPE this interface is customizable and has the ability to look a little like the final cut of yesteryear.

Dont agree. Not ugly. I've heard of people not liking white text on black backgrounds. I have no problem at all with that, and in fact prefer that in darker rooms. Blasting white screens tire me more in a dimly lit room.

Exactly. Our economy did not go down the crapper because of lack of manufacturing...but it certainly doesn't help.

How is it that in THIS ECONOMY the US Gov't can't entice Apple/Foxconn/whoever to build here in the US?! Come on...you're telling me that the US Gov't either said a)nope...not gonna budge...our policies/rules are the same or b)here's our best offer (yet it was still much worse than opening in Brazil?!)

$12 Billion is a lot of money for a company opening a manufacturing plant.

As for your tax comment...I've always wondered and firmly believe that 100% of all US citizens should pay the exact same tax rate. Whites don't pay differently than blacks right? Catholics don't pay more than Muslims right? Aren't we all supposed to be "equal" in this nation? Make the darn tax rate something universal like 20% and every SINGLE YEAR we all know exactly what we're paying and the gov't knows exactly how much they're getting. Budget problems and crying will be basically wiped out.

Thank you. Don't forget to add the corporations to that flat tax in addition to eliminating all tax loopholes/breaks. Cutting NPR and Union collective bargaining rights are not going to solve our fiscal mess. If we can't openly discuss the stupid wars then move the spotlight to the Corporatocracy this country has become.

Well, I like to listen to music on an MP3 player. Windows does not natively support MP3. I don't like product activation, as it means I have to call and reactivate when I change a bunch of hardware, which I'm likely to do enough for it to be a problem. I don't like paying for an OS with an insecure foundation. I don't like paying for an OS which with IE 'removed' still manages to pop up ads in ... IE. I don't like a dos cli, which has some UNIX commands, but ususally requires DOS commands.
Uh. Windows does have the support. I can play MP3s in Windows Media Player. I can write programs using the API to play MP3s, WMA, ASF, whatever. Maybe you mean to encode? Sure, Microsoft didn't want to pay Fraunhofer for the license, since they have their own audio format that works just fine.

Product activation. Just sends info on computer--no personal info. One click. No big deal. Microsoft is just protecting its profits losses. I've had my Athlon for a year, changed a lot, XP still runs fine and hasn't bitched.

Windows is just as insecure as any desktop OS. I've seen many OS X security updates. Desktop OSes are worst for security if you don't know how to fully utilize the OS security components (i.e. NT Security Model, UNIX security model).

If you want UNIX in Windows. Get cygwin.

.net is an entirely closed initiative. JScript is JavaScript crippled for IE only. C# is (from what I've heard) bad C++. I have tried to avoid .net for many reasons. I enjoy open standards. I like learning languages which are more likely to succeed in the broadest audience. I hate the whole .dll structure. COM/ASP services I have built in the past refused to scale well.

Outside of that, I see nothing wrong with .net, and some people will surely code for it, as long as its around.
Very wrong. Microsoft has a shared-source (other name for open source) .NET VM, compiler, etc. for BSD called ROTOR. It's just as good as the commercial counterpart for Windows, which is free. Hell, ROTOR works on Windows if you want to have ROTOR on Windows. Besides, Mono is GPL'ed open source implementation of Microsoft.NET.

JScript is not only for IE. It's used in scripting. JScript.NET isn't for IE anyways. It's a scripting language that can be compiled into .NET MSIL CLR.

C# is a ECMA standard. Java isn't. It isn't bad C++. It isn't even C++. It's Microsoft's version of SUN's Java with quite some differences from Java. C# isn't Java per se, but very similar. C# is actually a very elegant language. It just works.

Microsoft also encourages standards with XML Web Services. It's an open standard. There's a XML Web Service implementation for Java by SUN. It will play friendly with Microsoft.NET.

COM/ASP scalability is just as bad as PHP scalability. Microsoft.NET solves this with ASP.NET which is far much more powerful and scalable.
No what I'm saying is that Apple is a company that invest heavily in its industrial design, its UI development, etc. which gives it a high degree of style.
No arguments there. Then again, Microsoft has too, especially with Microsoft.NET.

The hardware of Apple's line, love it or hate it, is highly stylized. The OS has a lot more visual appeal, and more thoughful and intuitive layout. It's bloody UNIX my Granny sends me email from. Windows is available as delivered in Marshmellow or 98 Mode. It just looks bad...
Opinionated. I don't care if its bloody UNIX your granny sends emails from, she still doesn't know and therefore doesn't take full advantage of UNIX. Marshmellow? 98 Mode? Microsoft has dumped 9x and moved on with NT/2k/XP.

The ease of use argument is primarily focused opn productivity.

In Windows, when you empty the trash, an alert/confirmation box appears. You can then change focus to another window, burying the alert box, and freezing the OS, so you have to drill down through all the windows you have open to answer this alert before continuing.
Why not simply respond to the request of action immediately then move on. Since when would it freeze the OS? Never happened to me. You don't have to answer to continue. Windows NT/2k/XP uses protected memory, just like Mac OS X. In fact, Windows had it long before Mac OS X even came out the public.
Little annoying counter-intuitive time wasters abound.
Well... I haven't come across anything counter-intuitive or time wasting in XP. It's all opinonated.
I have both, I use both, I code on both, and I just feel from experience that the Mac is a better environment to code on. As I said, I'm not rendering, so the raw speed advantages of x86 are lost to the clunkiness of the UI.
Mac is better vs. PC again. Remember. PC isn't Windows. Besides, the faster speed can help by increasing productivity by making things seem extremely responsive.
My main machine is a DP867 with 2GB of RAM and a ATA133 RAID.

It is as responsive it can be.
Wow, you need that much to be productive under Mac OS X? Jeez.

Well, I run a Dual PIII 500 Server/occasional workstation with 1GB of PC100 Registered ECC Micron RAM, all name brand, unaltered stuff. It also runs only heavily tested commercial apps (no kazaa like crap).

It has a BSOD often enough to cause hair loss. Also, it has very destructive BSODs, meaning I get to use my 4 Win2k boot floppies...that's 3 hours of lost time.
Then you're doing something wrong. Try out Windows XP. Very destructive BSODs, like what? I've only had one about win32k.sys, but that was a memory corruption issue that I quickly solved. Windows XP is absolutely STABLE here.

If you have two different Airport Expresses, both with speakers attached, you can stream music to both at the same time. This isn't a new feature in 7.0.

You maybe didn't read my post properly. I said I spotted that 6.0.5 could do this but I still don't know how. Whenever I select a different set of speakers it swaps to the new set. Do you need to press a modifier key or something? (Can't test just now because one of my AEs is elsewhere).

The v7 interface chugs a bit on my 1.25 GHz PBG4. I think the interface has too many dark shades. What's with the black highlight in the sidebar?

The iPhone 4's 5 mp camera has superior quality against its competitors 8mp. The reason being is that the quality of the lens that is in the iPhone is higher than the opposing. I hope to see crystal clear hdr photos and 1080p 30fps video. 1080p on the next iPad would rock!
