Geez, this is a MONEY LOSER if there ever was one.
I loved the beatles when I was 6.
But, these days who's going to be buying these tracks!!!
Steve must love the Beatles, because this is a gift.
And will hardly be a profitable venture.
---
Yes, the stereo effect on the early albums is hard on headphones.
The drums ONLY in the Right ear.
The Guitars ONLY in the Left...

Does this fix the lack of opening animation of 3rd party apps that was present in 4.3?

These are great boxes, and fairly priced for what you get. Should sell like hotcakes to the pros.
But these new machines just make the hole in Apple's product line that much more obvious. No headless machine between $799 and about $2199? No machine between yonah dual 1.6 and xeon quad 2.0? No machine with swappable video card for under two grand??? You'll be able to get a smoking dual core conroe PC for probably half that.
I just hope this isn't the last of the line (hopefully apple is just saying that to brag on the transition speed) and there's a cheap midrange tower running conroe on the way.
If that doesn't happen, Apple needs to update imac and even the mini to fast conroes ASAP. Both were great models at reasonable prices when they shipped, but they're looking long in the tooth and overpriced now. Updates would help close that gap in the product line.
The pros are a HUGE improvement in expandability over the crappy internals of the G5 tower, and the extra usb ports (even 800 on the front!) are very nice. I think it's a bit cheap to leave off the BT and wifi at those prices though, and even though they're pro machines they should throw in Front Row and the remote.

Well that makes sense, as it costs lots of money for developers to attend... why should they show it for free live :) Thanks.
The devs are paying to go to all the booths and tutorials where they can learn about the new features and how to impliment them into their software. The Keynote is really just a bit of fun for them.

. Now I can hear my favorite Tony Orlando song from when I was 5 juxtaposed with a couple Journey tunes from high school, immediately followed by the new Beck CD, all while I make dinner or cut the lawn.
The iPod has helped to bring music back into my life in a really meaningful way.
Tony Orlando!!????

Agreed. Recipe for sucess:
Click.
Enter credit card information.
Get on with life.
Sign for package when it arrives in about three weeks.
Enjoy your new device.
The delays were actually a good thing for me. Gave me time to "cool off"
I'm with you on every point, except the cooling off period.
Now that Apple's quality control had tanked, I know that there's a great likelihood ill get a bad one and the return game will begin.
Even though I have an Apple store nearby, I buy BTO, so I'm stuck with what has become "The Crap Shoot, Gambling The Apple Way".

I dont want new MacBooks!
I already have my MacBook so that may be influencing me but there is my gripe. There is finally a separation between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro. There is an obvious reason for why the MacBook Pro costs more. Bringing them both to the same level creates the same problem Apple used to have... many (including myself) can easily justify getting MacBook instead of the MacBook Pro because the MacBook does everything you need the Pro version to do.

Completely depleted is too strong a word. But, waiting for existing inventories to be relatively low before a release makes sense.
Anyway, we shall see. I can't wait until the wait is over and I can move on to deciding which new model makes for the best investment.
I think if you look at BB inventory, international apple store inventory, and a few online resellers, it's pretty clear that stocks are running down. What's odd is that a few places seem to have run their sales and depleted their stock, but had to replenish. I think everyone's surprised at how long the wait has been, resellers included.
There's no such thing as a good investment in computers... The best you can do is hope to minimize your loss and get something with decent resale value like, oh, a Mac. :)

iLounge has a "First Look" article with photos of all models and accessories. They say that the new nanos have the Search and Smart Scroll feature of the new 5G iPod. Hopefully we with the plastic nanos won't miss out on that. I'm expecting an iPod Updater soon.

Our country's cycle of support>arm>aid>turn against>support new group needs to stop, as it is directly responsible for much of the instability we've seen in the world over the last 20+ years.
American foreign policy has indeed come up quite short in the foresight department. However, Khadahphee (or however it gets spelt) rose to power with no real assistance from other countries and has only been supported indirectly, through people buying oil. The only support Libya gets from the US is indirect, from irresponsible excess in oil consumption that keeps the prices up for everyone.

Where did you get that chair. If you have the link please link it in here. I know many people would like one.

The ClickWheel "interface" of the classic is a royal pain in the back when you have to navigate through thousands of titles.
It's easy to navigate with the click wheel if your songs are properly tagged. I'd rather use it than the iOS iPod app. :)

..hmm... as many of you know .mac has really been struggling in the past few months.
Prediction:
Steve will announce an all new .mac service, with web based applications reserved solely for .mac members. Also a new feature will be the ability to store videos on your .mac which can be streamed to your iphone and AppleTV 2.
j.
I like the sound of that. I'd love apple to do something progressive with .mac.

A Phat iPod Touch sounds like a great product to me. Integrate an iPad touch with limited flash storage and a iPad Hard Drive. Call it the Phat iPod Touch..
Hard drives would not be good AT ALL for an iPod Touch. Apps depend on the instant access that flash memory allows for using data, so a hard drive would slow the whole process up, especially on the processor size. Plus, moving objects are exactly why they moved to flash: too fragile and much easier to destroy. Nope, the hard drive based music player has seen its day in the sun and is now going off into the distance. It has a good run, but like the floppy before it (didn't flash memory also kill that too?), its just not good enough for today.

But that approval process keeps those 30+ million iPhones and iPod Touches humming along without data being corrupted or stolen (Rickrolling jailbroken iPhone worm notwithstanding. Again, once you go outside of this "overbearing" control-freak company, you're vulnerable).
1. iPhone OS applications are strictly sandboxed (jailed phones only).
2. Apple's reviewers have and will continue to miss easter eggs (IE: version 1.0 of C64's ability to execute BASIC, within a sandboxed environment of course)
3. Apple demands that developers reveal easter egg functionality when submitting apps. Otherwise, it is unlikely that a reviewer will notice secret functionality during the 5 minutes they have with the app.

That is if America is under immediate threat ...
I don't know about that. Check out #2 ...
 1543. Reporting requirement (http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode50/usc_sec_50_00001543----000-.html)
(a) Written report; time of submission; circumstances necessitating submission; information reported
In the absence of a declaration of war, in any case in which United States Armed Forces are introduced—
(1) into hostilities or into situations where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the circumstances;
(2) into the territory, airspace or waters of a foreign nation, while equipped for combat, except for deployments which relate solely to supply, replacement, repair, or training of such forces; or
(3) in numbers which substantially enlarge United States Armed Forces equipped for combat already located in a foreign nation;
the President shall submit within 48 hours to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and to the President pro tempore of the Senate a report, in writing, setting forth—
(A) the circumstances necessitating the introduction of United States Armed Forces;
(B) the constitutional and legislative authority under which such introduction took place; and
(C) the estimated scope and duration of the hostilities or involvement.
If the United States were under immediate threat, do you really think the president would have to write a report to congress "setting forth the circumstances necessitating the introduction of United States Armed Forces"?
I think the War Powers Act reaches beyond there needing to be an immediate threat.
But please, correct me if I am wrong.
