I walked into an AT&T store last summer to look at the iPhone4. Huge lines all over, had to sign in...didnt feel like it.
We went to the mall across the street, walked by Radio Shack, saw the iPhones (3GS and 4) and stepped in...we were greeted and talked about the iPhones and the other phones.
We walked out in a little bit with two new iPhones.

They were helpful and no lines. Great experience compared to Apple stores and ATT stores weve been in.
(Apple is mainly busy not rude but that crowded atmosphere means hard to talk to an employee.)

RADIO SHACK is another option to buy. it is a good thing....keeps the "lower-class" out of your Elitist Apple Stores. haha

Anyone who was expecting more from this update was living in a bit of a dreamland. The MacBook design is the newest of all the form factors from Apple and from the sales figures they have no reason yet to think about changing it. Incremental updates are nice to see, price cuts are even nicer.

As for what we're now going to get at MacWorld. I think iTV, video iPod and BluRay will be the main talking points there, along with a small update across the range to support 802.11n. I don't think Leopard will be ready by January.

I am dissapointed that they did not upgrade the specs for the 1.83 model.

They managed to hold the price for the other models while upping RAM, HD and Superdrive to Double Layer. Why on earth have they not given them all 1Gig RAM throughout the line.

Yes, it drives people to buy the 2.0 model and YES it drives away the others that are not prepared to spend this extra 200$....

The real problem here is that no self respecting trendy woman that is worth beaming to or plugging into, will be carrying a Toshiba Zune...

Only Steve could not say that in the interview. :p

Seems like black is, well, the new black.

I suppose the 8GB Nano only being available in black is some kind of status thing.

Though I really like the new cases a lot as throwbacks to the Mini. I've got a 20GB 2G iPod from back in the day that's still going strong. But it's nice to know I could replace it with something as cool looking as the old Minis - especially in a year or so when Nano capacity will probably be 8-16GB (or maybe even over 20GB?!).

If you're correcting someone's spelling, it looks better if you spell the word "spelling" correctly. ;)
Back on topic, this would be short-sighted of Wal-Mart. Ten years from now, movies and music on physical media will largely be things of the past, much like cassette tapes are today. The change won't come right away, but it will come. If Wal-Mart wants to beat Apple at this game, it will have to introduce its own movie download service.

So explain the 920,000 workers FoxConn employs.

Clearly, something in manufacturing gadgets and electronics, which is FoxConn's primary business, requires a lot of labor or else they wouldn't be employing close to a million people!
Like you, I'm not familiar with the details of their business model. Some of what they manufacture might be labor intensive, and some of it might be built on a robotic assembly line. Trying to figure this out from that Wikipedia article will be nothing but speculation.

I'm guessing he got the MBP before the iPad. And, the 13 inch MBP can do a lot more than an iPad, while being more portable than the 15".

Oh of course, still seems a little redundant though.

it seems that there is no longer an option for the "matte" screen, only the glossy one.

also, and this is a guess, the new airport cards are the same as the pre-n ones found in recent MBPs and iMacs.

Happiness all around about the good news. I look at Microsoft and how they ****ed up lots of customers' Windows 7 phones by over-the-air updates. And since these guys at Microsoft are not nearly as stupid as people on MacRumors would like to believe, it seems that over the air updates just have a huge potential for ***ing up someone's iPhone or iPad as well. Starting with firmware updates that you really, really only should perform when connected to a strong and stable power source. I think Apple wouldn't want a million customers with bricked iPhones or iPads. And if Apple's engineers think they can pull this off without bricking any iPhone, then hopefully their manager asks them "so what makes you think you are smarter than the guys at Microsoft"? The Microsoft guys were quite sure they could do it, and they messed it up, twice.

Now we add that the size of an iOS update is quite big compared to most people's monthly 3G data allowance, and I think this is a pipe dream.

Unless it's an entirely new OS, like iOS 5 for example, it should be able to recognize what version your device is running and download only the essential features of the following update. Having to download the entire OS (which is over 600mb) every single time is a bit ridiculous.

Every time engineers are trying to be clever they run the risk of messing things up. Taking the old iOS, removing it completely, and installing a completely new, fresh iOS is safe and risk free. Trying to be clever and replace only the right things risks messing up things and leaving a very, very, very unhappy customer.

After checking out many of these photos and from previous threads I learned that simplicity and lighting really introduce a really nice setup.

Tip 1: If you have an iMac get back lighting to have the back of the iMac glow. This is very cheap to be done.

Tip 2: Get a modern wooden table/ glass table. Here is a link to the desk I have that is really modern.

    http://www.amazon.com/Corner-Computer-Right-Extension-Tables/dp/B001YKHI0A/ref=pd_sbs_op_43

Or for the same one for cheaper
    http://www.homefurnitureshowroom.com/products/?tid=1108&psku=5444932&af=1622

Tip 3: Have stands for your i Devices such as the iPad and iPhone 4 with the dock that apple sells & have them side by side with the iMac or desktop.

Tip 4: Dark Walnut or lightwood are the modern colored wood that people like to choose. Redwood is a fancy type color and is not clarified modern so don't get that color if you are looking to having a modern setup.

Tip 5: As I said from Tip 1 for your iMac but this is towards the whole setup. Get a modern light that really lights up your whole setup.

Tip 6: Modern framless paintings on the wall of your setup is a great ad-on. Here is a great website to find some modern paintings for cheap.
    http://www.bonanzle.com/booths/urbanartgallery?item_sort_options%5Bfilter_category_id%5D=&item_sort_options%5Bcustom_category_id%5D=&item_sort_options%5Bcustom_category_name%5D=&item_sort_options%5Bbonanza_only%5D=&item_sort_options%5Bfilter_string%5D=&item_sort_options%5Bsort_by%5D=cheap

Tip 7: Rather than selling your old iMac use it as a second monitor side by side with the new iMac that you purchased. (The more displays, the more productivity and real-estate you get).

Tip 8: get a modern computer chair. Here is a nice one.
    http://www.tycromedia.com/manhattan-office-espresso-highback-chair-p-194793.html

    Thats about it.

I actually have the glass desk I linked you to but my setup isn't ready yet so I won't be posting my iMac,iPad, iPhone setup yet.

Need the backlighting iMac and more overall lighting on my setup.

Does anyone know what the formatted capacities are of each (2 gig, 4 gig, 8 gig).

I can't find where I read it, but somewhere it looked like the formatting ate up 600 mb of space - YIKES!

Can anyone please clarify this, confirm, refute? Thanks!

You don't lose too much to formatting, you "lose' space because computers incorrectly use GB as a storage term instead of GiB.

Take the capacity in GB, multiply it by 0.93 to give you GiB (which the computer will report as GB even though using an SI prefix "giga" is inappropriate for a binary measurement) and that will give you the capacity. Anything lost beyond the initial 7% of the drive is due to formatting. On a regular HDD the difference isn't much but on an iPod it's a fair bit more due to the OS, built-in applications and stuff like that.

An 8GB iPod, if nothing was loaded on it (ie, just a blank 8GB HDD) would report a capacity of ~7.44GB on the computer. It should report 7.44GiB. Don't worry, you still get the 8x10^9 bytes you paid for, it's just a stupid quirk of all computers that they report binary measures in SI units.

8GB = ~7.44GiB. But your computer will say 7.44GB which lends the illusion of lost space.

I think I remember Jobs saying that no one wants to read a book with clunky low rez text, an e-book would have to have a sharp high resolution text.

You would have to make a screen that was 300 dpi, people with bad eye sight could enlarge the text.

Measure a paperback book without the margins, it comes to 6.4" X 3.6" at 300dpi that comes to 1920 by 1080 pixels, and that happens to be a HD Video ratio.
