I just don't see that happening, even if they have an optical drive in it. Apple is content with the portable line as it is, and the MacBook is pretty compact already. Plus, I don't see Apple using a smaller widescreen than 13.3".

Apple content with portable line?!? I seriously doubt that - Jobs has repeatedly mentioned they have a *lot* of stuff in the pipeline.

And I don't see how you can say that Apple wouldn't go smaller than 13.3" widescreen. If Apple previously had a *non* widescreen 12" PowerBook, why on earth would they be opposed to having at least widescreen 12" laptop? I mean a 12" widescreen display is superior in almost every respect to a non-widescren 12" display. It's better not only for movie viewing but also in my experience for surfing the web, document, editing, etc. (can fit more text in one line, and scrolling vertically is more common/natural than scrolling horizontally).

So that's actually why I think a 10.6" widescreen is viable. Apple previously had a non-widescreen 12" PowerBook, and a 10.6" widescreen display is almost the same width...

I will claim that food stamps are mostly abused. I don't have numbers, but I have eyes, and have known several people that have received food stamps. I have had people I know, as well as strangers, ask me if I would buy their food stamps. I wish food stamps were limited with what you could buy, something like the way WIC does.

What a fabulously foolish and ignorant statement.

I've known several people who have died in car accidents therefore most people die in car accidents .

I personally live in the middle of Richmond VA which is filled plenty of lower class African Americans, who I walk by on my way to school every day. And in the last three years no one has offered to sell me food stamps. Therefore no one EVER abuses the food stamp program .

If you can't produce some statistical data than your just making **** up.

The Magic Trackpad rules. Love it. Don't even use the mouse. It seems like you have to move the mouse so far to get it across the screen and with the Magic Trackpad its just gets you around the screen faster.

You can change the tracking settings to make it faster...

I really want to see how Leopard is going to turn out. There has been so much hype surrounding WWDC, I really hope WWDC is as good as everyone rumors it to be.

There have been way too many posts on WWDC...It's making me sick..

A Banner isn't going to give away SQUAT! We must wait until the keynote and any other possible leaks hours before the keynote to actually know what happens.

What's with the focus on 'sold out'? Simply limit your passes well below the projected numbers of participants, and there you go, sold out. It's just a math game and a marketing ploy.

But how many tickets were actually for sale? 3000? 5000? 10,000? Remember that the conference center needs to house all the Apple employees, the contractors, and of course all the booths/rooms.

I would imagine that Apple purposely plans events (timing as well as location) that WILL sell out. Apple doesn't want to hold an event where only 50% of the conference hall is filled.

Selling out in 12 hours may not be all that it's cracked up to be. But in theory if 100% of the attendees are truly developers, I could see a fast sellout.

You and a few other thousand engineers. What hasn't been said is how many tickets were sold. I would be curious to see if Apple limited the amount of tickets the first round to get hype and "additional tickets" will go on sale later this week.

    Really? Wow, what's next?

    Cupertino:

Apple has announced a reduction in the number of restrooms available in their office buildings. This is seen as a media ploy to drive up demand.

Tin foil hats, necessity or fashion accessory? New at eleven.

But there are larger venues available, so it is certainly possible to limit the number of attendees by choosing a venue that is too small.

But are they ready to make the move to Vegas? Would love to see WWDC move here. :)

Nope. You we're screwed when you picked Verizon. How's that map treating you? :p

I have no doubt's that this will be resolved in time. In the mean time, I don't have any of the problems that the new IOS 4.3.1 fixes on my Verizon iPhone. ;):apple:

Heh, my roommate tells me he's got a family friend where the husband and wife have figured out a good compromise (only works if both sides are actually decent with money ;) ).

If either buys an expensive purchase, the other side gets to also buy something of equivalent value. Apparently it keeps them in check about overspending cause they realize it will cost their household twice the amount of money and it stays fair cause both sides get to enjoy a purchase of their own.

My wife and I have a similar arrangement. I can have something expensive for my birthday. She can have her expensive curtains or sofa..etc. It works great and it is fair for the two of us. I got Adobe Photoshop Cs5, Audition and Lightroom and a Technet membership. She got cloths and a very expensive coat. I still don't know what to get for my next birthday.

Maybe they will feature the Macbook Air Revision this year ;)

The Macbook Air got an event presentation in Octobre, it's not getting another event spot for what will be a spec bump. It's getting a silent update next.

Mac hardware has not really gotten any keynote time in the last few years. It's mostly been silent updates, even the Mac Mini redesign just showed up one morning.

So these guys pay $1000 to NOT see a keynote??

I'd wager the people paying 1000$ for WWDC don't do it for the keynote (hint, developers going to developer workshops). The keynote is just icing.

Running a piece of software in "emulation" is a poor example of compatibility. It's like having to buy an external drive for your portable computer. It's cumbersome, hardly ideal, and defeats the purpose.

The problem with Apple simple. They have no enterprise strategy. They have no muscle to get developers to begin including Macs in custom software solutions, database integration, and web-services compatibility. Apple is totally missing the point, and doesn't understand the place of the computer in business and (this is the sad one) education.

So, Apple has the Xserve, right? Huge dismal failure for them. They are giving hardware to Universities, but they're not leveraging their weight to get software and datablase companies on board to write enterprise-wide server-based applications. A good example: some universities are in the process of migrating all their research to secure server farms, and interconnecting them nationwide to increase the pool of information available to researchers. This means that different applications, different file types, and different methods of gathering that information (such as a custom-written piece of software that, say, reads indentity cards or thumb-print records) need to become recognizeable, retrieveable, and editable from any location. Or what if libraries wanted to interconnect, creating a real-time updated database of all published works and periodicals known to mankind. They need to be able to trade data, and allow data to be submitted by individual users (such as a publication written by an independent party).

These are great examples of how the world is becoming more interdependent, and the personal computer is becoming merely a gateway to more information, applications and services. It's also a great way of illustrating how Apple is missing the boat entirely. They have made no such moves at the university (or even lower education) level. They have no plan (or so it seems) for the time when data unity is going to becom an essential element of the computing environement. They are making a wonderful move with embracing open standards, but they need to drive enterprise-level development. They need to sell solutions to the enterprises now, and make sure their technology is implemented, instead of trying to retrofit Mac-compatibility into an implemented solution. By then it will be too late, and the Mac platform will become obsolete.

Like the world has done such a bang up job of being trustworthy, lol. Apple has to do what they believe they have to do to survive and thrive. They haven't done it by the conventional/popular ways of thinking. I never said that Apple is perfect or that their approval process is just right. But it is what it is. People aren't all trustworthy, that's probably a reason why they clamp down (whether right or wrong in certain instances) on app approval.

That's exactly the point I was making, by pointing out how Facebook also has an approval process for their applications (Like those games people play from their Facebook pages). I was not advocating that Apple approve iPhone apps by default.

Actually, I have to take that back. I read just about anything related to Formula 1, but that's different as it happens IRL:rolleyes:

Ok, I hate to admit that I do like the daily challenges in Reach. I still ***** loathe achievements though....

You may have Windows 7 on your desktop but I doubt if you've ever used it properly. Now I've been a Mac user for a long time and I own an iMac and an MBP but let me tell you this, Windows 7 is definitely much better than Vista.

I really don't want to compare Windows to OSX but after using both Vista and 7, I am very confident when I say that Microsoft has really done a good job with Windows 7. Vista was a disaster though....

What are some of the things you like better about 7 over Vista? I upgraded a few weeks ago and really haven't been able to find any improvements. Even the performance problems haven't been improved (benchmarks) (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=623235).

Please, elaborate on how one he would have "used it properly" in reference to an OS.

It's an OS. It should get the hell out of your way and let you worry about actually *doing* stuff with your computer. About the best thing I can say about Windows 7 is that it doesn't require me to care about it in the least, so in that, it's a success, although I still far prefer OS X.

Well one can use an OS "properly" if he doesn't have a preconception that it sux before he has even used it. All I wanted to point out is that Windows 7 is more problem-free when you compare it to Vista. Believe it or not but Windows actually *does stuff* for the majority of the computer using population out there.

And if you had read my post "properly" you'd have understood that even I prefer OSX to Windows. I hope I have made myself clear "properly".

I just bought a Macbook Pro literally 5 minutes ago. I've been waiting for months and I finally gave up. After the order was completed, I thought I'd check macrumors just for laughs and the first thing I saw was, "new macbook pros tomorrow?" :(

"Giving up" does not mean buying outdated technology for top dollar. If you were truly giving up on waiting, you should have also given up on Apple -- who did not value your interest enough to give you either a discount or some indication as to when updates would be released.
